Dental Fillings

Dental Fillings

Dental filling or tooth filling is a very common procedure most commonly used to treat cavities. However dental fillings can be used to repair cracked or broken teeth, or teeth that have been worn down over time.  The area around the tooth is numbed with a topical anesthetic so you will not feel any discomfort. The medication wears off shortly after the procedure is done. The procedure can be done in a short period of time and most people get back to regular eating in a few hours. The procedure entails substituting decayed tooth material with fillings, which can be made from resin, ionomers, gold, amalgam, or ceramics.

The procedure for tooth cavity filling is relatively easy and will last between 30 – 60 minutes. Before the dentist starts the dental filling, your gums, teeth, and adjoining skin will be rendered numb. The dentist will proceed to clean the area carefully. if needed, the decayed teeth will removed with either a laser or drilled. This may sound scary, and painful, but the anesthetics and numbing applied at the start will significantly reduce the pain. Then the filling material in the hole. The numbing agent will fade away over the next hour and you will be free to resume all eating activities!
